Cape Aya (tract Ayyazma) - a cape on the south-east of Balaklava , a few kilometers to the east from an array Arfen-Cher-Burun and represents a projection shore length of 13 kilometers. Cape restricts the southern coast of Crimea in the west. Title
cape comes from the Greek word "Agios" (which means - holy).
Cape Aya is a steep spur of the Main Ridge of Crimean Mountains and continues to the base of Mount Kush-Kaya. The highest peak on the Cape Aya - rock Cauquil Kiya ( "blue rock") in height of 558.5 meters. The eastern side of the cape is a very attractive for mountaineers wall. There are about 10 routes, although visited by almost all of them extremely rare.
To the east of the cape is Laspinskaya bay , and her cape Laspi, located west of the small bay at the foot of the mountain ascetic and Castle, then & mdash ; Cape George.
Cape is unique in its nature. Here is preserved a unique corner of the Mediterranean flora. Such plants as the strawberry tree, high juniper, pine Stankevich rarely found where on the peninsula. Every spring, the Cape asfodelina bloom, crocuses, orchids, listed in the Red Book.
At the base of the cape there are caves.
In the region of Cape Aiya in 1955-1956 was built missile system (object 100), later rebuilt by launching cruise missiles.
Cape Aya is included in the State Landscaping reserve « Cape Aya ». The reserve was established in 1982 as a landscape reserve of national importance with an area of 1,132 hectares of territory. With the organization of reserve was composed of previously created objects of nature reserve fund of Ukraine - Natural monument of local importance "Pitsundskaya grove of pine and juniper at Cape Aya" (created in 1947), "The tract Batiliman" (1964) and a reserve tract "Stankevich pine grove" (1980). The water area extending 300 meters along the coast (208 hectares) is protected since 1972 as part of Laspi-Sarychskogo aquatic complex ( "Coastal aquatic complex near Cape Aiya »).
